The black panther is not a different species. The black panther
is a leopard with a Melanistic coat. A black leopard has spots
(see photo right); you can't always see them among the
dark fur.

Dark coloration of the skin, hair, fur, or feathers because of
a high concentration of melanin.

Gestation period is 12 - 14 weeks. Females give birth to 2 -
3 cubs. The cubs weigh about one pound at birth and they
open their eyes on the 10th day. The cubs stay with their
mother until they are about two years old.
